Scale Force Waterfall
Standing proud as one of the tallest waterfalls in the region, Scale Force promises an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. The thundering sound of water crashing against rocks, the lush greenery and mist surrounding the falls highlight the natural beauty that will leave you breathless.
Directions:
Start from the town of Buttermere, which is the closest town to Scale Force Waterfall.
From Buttermere, head towards Crummock Water, which is a lake located to the west of the town.
Follow the path along the western shore of Crummock Water. This path will lead you directly to Scale Force Waterfall.

Wasdale Fairy Pool
Tucked away in the heart of the Lake District, you'll find the beautiful Wasdale Fairy Pool, a special place just waiting to be discovered. Renowned for its sparkling turquoise waters, this secluded spot is surrounded by vibrant greenery and breathtaking mountain vistas. Directions
Start at the village of Gosforth in Cumbria.
From Gosforth, take the road towards Wasdale Head.
Follow the road until you reach the Wasdale Head Inn.
Park your vehicle at the inn or in the nearby parking area.
From the inn, take the footpath that leads towards the lake.
Follow the footpath along the shores of Wastwater, the deepest lake in England.
After a short walk, you will reach the Fairy Pool, which is located on the left-hand side of the path

Rydal Falls
If you're after a circular walk around this area then consider a walk that includes Rydal Falls. Situated near the village of Rydal it is an incredibly popular destination for nature lovers and hikers. Known for its beauty and tranquility, the waterfall cascades down a series of rocky steps surrounded by lush greenery and moss-covered roots. The walk is relatively easy for all age groups.
Directions
Start at the village of Rydal, which is located between Ambleside and Grasmere in the Lake District.
From the village, head towards Rydal Mount, the former home of the poet William Wordsworth.
Follow the footpath that leads from Rydal Mount towards Rydal Hall.
As you walk along the footpath, you will come across a wooden bridge.
Cross the bridge and continue along the path, following the signs for Rydal Falls.
After a short walk, you will reach Rydal Falls, which is nestled in a wooded area.

Aira Force Waterfall
If you're after the most famous waterfall in the Lake District, then this is the one, drawing visitors from all over the world. Known for its impessive cascades and the picturesque setting that surrounds it, the waterfalls drops approx. 65 feet ( 20 metres) into a deep gorge, surrounded by ancient woodland. With the rushing water, lush greenery and moss-covered rocks you could think you were in a fantasy novel. The walk to the falls in relatively easy, however there are some steps and uneven terrain along the way. There is a visitor centre near the waterfall, where you can learn about the history and natural features of the Aira Force. The centre provides information, exhibits and facilites.
Directions
Start at the village of Glenridding, which is located on the shores of Ullswater, one of the largest lakes in the Lake District.
From Glenridding, follow the signs for Aira Force.
There is a car park available near the waterfall, where you can park.
From the car park, follow the footpath that leads to the waterfall.
As you walk along the footpath, you will pass through beautiful woodland and enjoy scenic views of the surrounding area.
After a short walk, you will reach Aira Force Waterfalls, where you can admire the cascades and explore the area.

Stock Ghyll
This popular waterfall located in Ambleside is known for its stunning beauty. There is a small admission fee to access the waterfall which helps with the maintenance and conservation of the area. The fee also includes entry to the nearby Stock Ghyll Force Information Centre, where you can learn about the waterfall and the local area. The fall is formed by Stock Ghyll Beck as it cascades down a series of rocky steps, surrounded by the ever present greenery and woodland. The fall is apporx. 70 feet (21 metres) in height.
Directions
Start at the centre of Ambleside village, which is located in the heart of the Lake District.
From the village centre, head towards Stock Ghyll Lane, which is a short walk from the main street.
Follow Stock Ghyll Lane until you reach the entrance of Stock Ghyll Woods.
Enter the woods and follow the well-marked footpath that leads to the waterfall.
After a short walk, you will reach Stock Ghyll Waterfall, where you can admire the cascades and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Ritsons Force
This hidden gem, tucked away in the Mosdale Valley, is a true marvel, where bright turquoise water cascades down rocky ledges against a backdrop of peaks, including Scafell Pike. As you venture towards Ritson’s Force, be prepared to be awestruck by the sheer grandeur and raw beauty of the cascading waterfall. The stunning blue waters owe their vibrant colour to the natural erosion of rock over time. As the rocks break down, they release a variety of rich minerals that dissolve in the water, creating that breathtaking hue we see today. Remarkably, even though this waterfall is nestled in one of the busier areas of the Lake District, it still feels like a hidden gem.
Directions
Take a trip through the beer garden at the Wasdale Head Inn.
From here, take a stroll across the stone bridge where you’ll find yourself on a path through a field. Keep an eye out for an opening in the stone wall and head through it towards the small woodland at the top of the hill.
There you’ll find a gate – go through it, and you’ll soon discover the delights of Ritson’s Force waterfall.
Keep an eye out for the National Trust Ritson’s Force sign and you’ll know you’ve arrived!

Lodore Falls
This magnificent waterfall located in the Borrowdale Valley is one of the most popular and iconic falls in the region, known for its impressive height and scenic beauty. The Falls is formed by the beck (stream) that flows from the Watendlath Tarn, cascading down a series of rocky steps before plunging into the gorge below. Approx. 100 feet (30 metres) in height it offers a spectacular sight especially after heavy rainfall when the water flow is at its strongest. There is also a viewing platform near the waterfall, which provides a great vantage point to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of Lodore Falls.
Directions
Start at the town of Keswick
From Keswick, head south on the B5289 road towards Borrowdale.
Continue on the B5289 until you reach the Lodore Falls Hotel, which is situated on the shores of Derwentwater.
There is a car park available at the hotel, where you can park your vehicle.
From the hotel, follow the footpath that leads towards the waterfall.
After a short walk, you will reach Lodore Falls, where you can admire the cascades and experience the power of the waterfall.
